我本有心奉献金粟，表达微薄的心意。
却无情地（被拒于）玉阶之下，无法上达。
我甘愿身披粗布短衣，安于贫贱。
而您（指权贵）自是身着华贵的长袍，曳裾而行。
湿润的云气弥漫，仿佛生于我的陋室屋顶。
涓涓细流，自然流淌到门前的沟渠。
人生十件事中，难得有三四件称心如意。
但十之八九的乐趣，都在于这闲居的生活。

I wish to offer gold and grain, my humble plea.
But no feeling ascends the jade steps, cold and high.
Content am I to wear a short robe, coarse and plain.
While you, my lord, in trailing long robes pass me by.
Damp clouds gather and brood over my humble room.
A trickling stream finds its way to the channel near.
Of ten trials, three or four may end in gentle bloom.
But eight or nine joys dwell in a life free and clear.
