Have you not seen the nine-ear grain of Jiyin,
Or the six-headed wheat of Henan?
How do they compare to Xinan's Haiyang county,
Where a single stalk of auspicious粟 surpasses the records?
In the sixth month of the fourth year of Jiading,
Harvested, as if from the easternmost east.
Dragon branch, phoenix crown, cloud-like clusters,
Making people strong, swift, with ruddy complexion.
Six heads and nine ears are not worth mentioning,
I long to get drunk and strike the golden bell.
Lord Zhao dared not keep it,
Galloped to report to the magistrate.
The magistrate dared not keep it,
Galloped to tell the prefect, his loyalty profound.
The Jiading sage sits in the law palace,
No声色 near, his heart is in farming.
The Jiading sage communicates with heaven,
Hence the auspicious粟 appears, heralding a丰年.
The Xinan prefect saw this and rejoiced,
Said it's not like exotic flowers or plants, the same,
Wrapped it in销金 yellow silk with his own hand.
Bowed twice and offered it to the heavenly gate,
Presented it to open the heavenly countenance.
I hear粟 has a spirit,
Its surname is Qingtian.
I hear the character粟's composition,
Its west side means 'gold坚固'.
I hear the character粟's explanation,
Is取自阳精相续 like百川.
Please divine what you have heard,
It can foretell the opening of precedence.
I sing to congratulate the magistrate,
The magistrate returns it to the prefect.
I sing to congratulate the prefect,
The prefect returns it to my皇极天子大父母,
Wishing to see peace for ten thousand ages and beyond.
Only the poor scholar knows nothing of this,
But hopes to eat粟 and never hunger again.
