湍激日蹙蹙，风棱势漫漫。

tuān jī rì cù cù， fēng léng shì màn màn。

ㄊㄨㄢㄐㄧㄖˋ ㄘㄨˋ ㄘㄨˋ，ㄈㄥㄌㄥˊ ㄕˋ ㄇㄢˋ ㄇㄢˋ。

奈何舟上人，试死才一间。

nài hé zhōu shàng rén， shì sǐ cái yī jiān。

ㄋㄞˋ ㄏㄜˊ ㄓㄡㄕㄤˋ ㄖㄣˊ，ㄕˋ ㄙˇ ㄘㄞˊ ㄧㄐㄧㄢ。

苟不以利涉，安坐思诚艰。

白话文翻译

湍急的水流日益紧迫地奔涌，

风势如刀锋，展现出无边无际的威势。

无奈那船上的人啊，又能怎么办呢？

他试探着生死，只在一线之间。

如果不是为了利益而冒险渡河，

他本可安然闲坐，却也要思虑生存的艰难。

旅人虽然害怕去架设桥梁，

却也为木材闲置在山中而叹息。

The torrent rushes, day by day it presses tight;

The wind's sharp edge unfolds a scene of boundless might.

Alas, the man aboard the boat, what can he do?

He tests his fate, a hair's breadth from death's rendezvous.

If not for profit's sake to cross the dangerous tide,

He'd sit at ease, yet think how hard 'tis to abide.

The traveler, though fearing to build a bridge's frame,

Laments the timber lying idle on the hill, all the same.
