The river path turns desolate and clear.
Moored at night where my small boat lies,
From time to time I hear a lone wild goose's cry.
Do not grieve that autumn is about to age,
It's merely the traveler's heart that feels the sting.
If you doubt the sorrow born in a foreign land,
Know it grows especially strong beside my chanting.
