家传学问，利用'三余'时间已很充足，
但在词坛科场，他一眼看透，终究虚无。
他拔须举荐贤才如鹰隼，
自己却点额落第，未能化龙腾云。
酒洒在新堆起的坟土之上，
旧日桂丛的香气已然消散。
深深怜惜这位扬执戟般的文士，
临到年老，悔恨雕琢文辞的徒劳。

A family's learning, thrice refined, was full and deep,
Yet in the literary arena, a glance saw all as vain to keep.
Plucking his beard, he recommended talents like the hawk,
But marking his forehead, he failed to become the dragon, to his shock.
Fresh soil is heaped upon the new grave with wine,
The fragrance fades from the old osmanthus grove, once so fine.
How pitiful, the halberd-holding scribe in his final years,
Regretting his ornate writings, shed futile tears.
