御者与射者相互比较争胜。
在当时尚且以这种行为为羞耻，
更何况是对于天下的士人呢？
英杰出众的忠州刺史陆贽，
以学问辅佐明君，增长智慧。
他仕途坎坷，徘徊不得志，
功勋事业终究未能成就。

The gamekeeper lured scholars with the promise of a post,
The charioteer and archer vied, a rivalry engrossed.
Even then, such acts were deemed a source of shame and scorn,
How much more for a scholar of the realm, forlorn?
Brilliant and noble was Lu, the loyal officer of the state,
His learning aided wisdom, a virtue truly great.
Yet he wandered low, encountering bumps and setbacks dire,
His deeds of merit never reached the heights he did aspire.
