孤独地高高挺立，高达几百寻。
直冲云霄而不屈折自己，
扎根大地，本性便是虚心。
年岁越老，树根越发粗壮，
烈日越是骄横，树荫越是浓密。
清明之时，它想着解除人们的烦忧，
甘愿被砍伐制作成五弦琴。

Its nature is dense and towering by itself,
Solitary and lofty, it rises hundreds of feet high.
Soaring to the sky, it does not bend itself,
Rooted in the earth, it remains hollow-hearted.
With age, its roots grow ever stronger,

In times of brightness, it thinks to dispel discontent,
Wishing to be hewn into a zither of five strings.
