天马志在驰骋万里，
但让它驾盐车还不如安闲自在。
壮士受困于局促束缚，
不如舍弃这些以求自身完满。
有利的前行常遇险阻车辙，
凭势涉渡却没有平静波澜。
那是千年都分明的羞耻，
对比这短暂一日的欢愉。
谁肯避开这纷扰人世，
抽身退隐以求得平和宽舒？
超然的你怀有此意，
为我吟唱那《考槃》之歌。
我正仰慕孔子的处世，
做个小吏久久徘徊未决。
得失或许谈不上有多大差别，
姑且各自趋向心安之所。

The heavenly steed aspires to roam ten thousand miles,
Yet better idle leisure than to haul mere salt.
A stalwart hero, bound and trapped in narrow confines,
Would find more wholeness in discarding such a fate.
Advantageous paths encounter rutted, obstructed tracks;
Venturing by force meets no tranquil, flowing waves.
A clear disgrace that echoes through a thousand years,
Against a hurried, fleeting joy that lasts a day.
Who would willingly shun this world and its affairs,
Withdrawing to seek a life of peace and spacious ease?
You, transcendent friend, possess this very intent,
And sing for me the "Song of the Woodcutter's Return."
I, for my part, admire the way of Confucius,
A petty clerk who long lingered, hesitant.
Though gain and loss may not be said so different,
Let us each follow where our comfort lies.
