江水连通着三峡，奔流不息，
州城掌控着众多蛮族之地。
沙尘弥漫，行旅之人疲惫不堪，
边境宁静，驻守的禁军悠闲无事。
汉人与边民混杂，市场交易频繁，
但精美的罗纨丝绸，他们却吝惜不愿交换。
挑选毛毡时，他们仔细拣选最精密的，
用来交换的马匹却瘦弱不堪，形貌憔悴。
他们垂着头，发髻高高盘起，
圆环状的耳饰挂在双耳之上。
夷人的语言我无法听懂，
他们为争夺利益而辛苦奔波，充满艰难。

The river flows through the Three Gorges, deep and wide,
The town commands the hundred tribes, a fortress by its side.
On dusty roads, the weary travelers trudge along,
The frontier's calm, the garrison troops find nothing wrong.
Han and tribesmen now trade together in the mart,
But silks and fine fabrics they're loath to part.
They pick the finest felt with meticulous care,
And trade their gaunt, weak horses, bony and bare.
Their heads hang low, with hair in coiled knots, a sight,
Round rings hang heavy from their ears, both left and right.
Their foreign tongue is one I cannot comprehend,
They strive for profit, hardship without end.
