Vast and boundless, the wild fields stretch to the horizon's rim;
Distinct and clear, the ancient tombs stand like summer houses grim.
Stele tablets, textless, lie deep within the thorny briar's clutch;
Stone beasts have sunken low, where pines and cypresses stand bare as such.
Though asking yields no names of those who in these graves now rest,
They all were high officials once, with ample wealth possessed.
Where have their scattered descendants gone, to what fate are they bound?
Good fortune and disaster—were they not by divination found?
I come here on the Cold Food Day, when skies are chill and gray,
No sacrificial meat is set, and no one comes to weep or pray.
