衰老不在于头发变白;
清晨我来到石上静坐;
夜晚我就在石上安眠;
Old age is not in hair turned white;
This state encroaches, step by step.
Only 'old' does not reside in me—
I lodge my age on the stone by the mountain's crest.
At dawn I sit upon the rock;
The misty air dampens my robe's fold.
At night I sleep upon the stone;
The moonlight bathes the cliff face cold.
Why does the old man south of town,
Find joy and sorrow, turn by turn?
He clicks his tongue, laments his age,
And makes his body toil and yearn.
People say, 'Grow old and die,'
Old age and death—what's there to rue?
The ancients had a profound word:
A human life hangs on one breath, true.
