梳理发鬟，照映在清寒的水中，
这清寒的流水知晓我胸中的贞洁。
整理发鬟，摘取秋天的芬芳，
秋天的花朵没有妖艳的容颜。
平生困顿失意，
如今追随梁鸿那样的高士远行。
既然甘心于布裙纺织的劳作，
又怎会厌恶短褐舂米的辛苦？
刺瞎眼睛确实已表明笃诚，
割掉耳朵又能追随什么呢？
独自弹奏箜篌，唱着谣曲，
河水自顾自地潺潺流淌。

I comb my hair, reflected in the cold clear stream,
The cold clear stream knows the chastity in my breast.
I tidy my hair, plucking autumn blooms serene,
Autumn blooms hold no coquettish charm, at their best.
All my life, in hardship and obscurity I've stayed,
Now I follow the wild goose of Master Liang's flight.
Content I am with weaving cloth in humble grade,
How could I loathe the pounding of coarse clothes with might?
To gouge out my eyes shows faith already deep and true,
To cut off my ears—what purpose would that pursue?
Alone I strum the konghou, singing a lonely air,
As the river's flow goes rushing on, unaware.
