蛟人困倦地躺在寒潭底，
平静的波浪上垂挂着朦胧的白绡。
水波上的姑娘划动轻快的船桨，
逆流而上，去与砍柴的情郎相会。
风吹乱了鬓发，来不及梳理，
像乌鸦的翅膀卷起，又像蝎子尾巴翘起。
色彩浓艳的罗带长长地缠绕在腰间，
日暮时分，她下来吹奏着短箫。

The mermaid lies in slumber deep, beneath the cold pool's tranquil face,
Her white silk veil hangs dim and steep, o'er misty waves in drowsy grace.
Upon the waves a maiden flies, her light oar cutting through the tide,
Against the stream to meet her love, who's gone to gather wood, she'll glide.
The wind blows through her hair untamed, too swift for her to smooth or bind,
Like raven's wing or scorpion's tail, in curls and twists it flows behind.
Her dark-patterned sash, long and fair, around her slender waist is wound,
At dusk she comes down, playing there, a short flute's melancholy sound.
