我家中贫寒，只有这一匹马，
昨日它忽然死去，令我惊诧。
它曾在庭院树下啃咬树皮至无肤，
秋日的郊野，谁还能再放它去驰骋奔逐？
空自悲伤它骏马的骸骨被埋葬，
本就缺乏破旧的帷帐为它举行葬丧。
何况它本是出自天闲厩的良驹，
因此更增添我失落的惆怅情绪。

In my poverty, I owned but a single steed;
Yesterday, alas, it was announced dead.
By the courtyard tree it gnawed, stripping the bark bare;
On autumn fields, who'll now let it run free there?
In vain I mourn the burial of its noble bones;

Moreover, it came from the imperial stable's line,
Which adds to my sorrow and makes me deeply pine.
