春雷没有唤醒蛰伏的生命，
秋雷却不肯收敛它的声响。
先前没有下过一天雨，
如今也没有一天晴朗。
昨夜玉女展露笑颜，
目光闪烁，明亮飞扬。
雷公与雨师，
自行发号施令，威严昭彰。
舒坦与惨淡都由上天决定，
荒诞虚妄之事却推给五行。
日月并不以谷物为食，
何必过问人间耕种的事情？
虽然屋瓦被风雨打烂，
但还有菌类从土地生长。
损害那个来增益这个，
谁能衡量人情的复杂模样？
尧的时代并非没有水患，
任用大禹，洪水才得平息安详。
百姓思念尧的仁德，
常常在羹汤中寄托怀想。
就像我们伟大君主的意旨，
如星火般设立水衡官职掌管水利。
水衡官员虽然努力，
又怎能与雷霆雨势争强？

Spring thunder fails to stir the dormant life,
Yet autumn thunder does not cease its sound.
There was not a single day of rain before,
And now not a single day of sun is found.
Last night the Jade Maiden smiled with gleaming eyes,
Her flashing gaze across the heavens shone.
The Lord of Thunder and the Master of Rain,
By their own clear command make their power known.
Ease and hardship come from the heavens above,
The Five Elements' whims are but a vain design.
The sun and moon do not eat grains of rice,
Why ask about the plowing of the land divine?
Though roof tiles may crack and crumble in the storm,
Still from the earth will mushrooms rise and twine.
To harm one for another's benefit,
Who can measure human feeling's tangled line?
In Yao's time floods were not an unknown plight,
Till Yu was used, and waters were confined.
The common folk recall Yao's benevolent rule,
Often seen in the broth, a memory enshrined.
Just as our great lord's intent, a spark of fire,
Establishes the office of water's sign.
Though the Water Office strives with all its might,
How can it with the thunderstorm contend and shine?
