兽类烹煮的是羊和猪，
禽类烹煮的是鸭和鸡。
唯有鹌鹑不被宰杀，
放在笼中让仆人携带。
公坐在厅堂上，看见此景心生悲戚。
急忙命令打开笼子让它回到旧栖处，
其中有的无力飞翔，队伍不齐。
公只知道鱼儿的悠然自得，
鹅儿的喈喈鸣叫。
唉呀唉呀。

Beasts are cooked—the sheep, the swine;
Birds are cooked—the duck, the hen.
Only the quail is spared from slaughter,
Placed in a cage, carried by a servant.
My lord sits in the hall, sees this, and grieves.
He urgently orders the cage opened, to return it to its old perch,
Though some, too weak, cannot fly in unison.
My lord knows only the fish, swimming free,
The goose, honking loud.
