建炎庚戌年的正月末尾，
阳山下了冰雹，大如李子。
迅雷先行，狂风紧随其后，
顷刻间，乌云屯聚，遍布千里。
起初怀疑是地轴打开了九重深渊，
极寒之地惊动了蛰伏的神龙飞起。
又恐怕天帝发怒，
降下灾祸扫荡南方荒远之地，驱除疫鬼。
冰雹破窗穿户，肆意横行，
撞击山石，摧折林木，其势无可比拟。
还以为是晨光正从屋檐窥探，
天色却又惨淡转黑，连头巾和鞋子都看不清。
披上衣服想起床，却又躺回枕上，
轰隆奔腾的巨响在双耳间喧闹不休。
我们君主的圣德超过了周成王与周康王，
但胡虏侵凌的祸患还远未停止。
中原的郡县大半已成丘墟，
敌人的铁骑仍想着侵犯南方边地。
如何才能让天威借助朝廷的谋略，
恢复黄河两岸的失地，这愿望或许可以期待。

The last days of the first month, in the year Gengxu of Jianyan,
In Yangshan, hailstones fell as large as plums.
Swift thunder led the way, fierce winds followed in its train,
In moments, clouds amassed, blanketing a thousand miles.
At first, I thought the earth's axis opened the abyss profound,
Where frozen darkness stirred, and a divine dragon did arise.
Then I feared the Emperor of Heaven might unleash his wrath,
To sweep the southern wilds and purge all pestilential fiends.
Through broken windows, shards flew wild, a scene of utter wreck,
Striking rocks, felling woods, a force beyond compare.
I thought the dawn was peeping through the eaves at break of day,
But gloom returned, and darkness veiled my cap and shoes.
I donned my robe to rise, then sank back to my pillow's rest,
While roaring, crashing tumult clamored in my ears.
Our sovereign's sage virtue surpasses Kings Cheng and Kang,
Yet northern foes still press their savage, ceaseless raids.
The central plains, half ruined, lie in mounds and desolate wastes,
Their armored steeds still yearn to breach our southern bounds.
Oh, to see Heaven's might aid our court's sagacious plans,
Restoring both river lands—this hope we may await.
