纺织麻布足以充当粮食，
种植黏稻常常可供酿醉。
素琴寄托着悠长的歌谣，
孤高的襟怀对抗着流俗，目光高远。
将国家的爵位视如腥膻般屏弃，
家境贫寒，却甘之如饴如同嗜好。
小径荒芜了便早早归来，
在园中漫步，成就了美好的景致。
依从世俗岂是崇尚雷同？
违背时流并非故意标新立异。
遥想那五柳先生的风范，
千年之后，依然令人相对叹息。

Freeing myself from worldly strife, I shed my mortal coil,
My will is set, embracing the ideals of days gone by.
Weaving hemp provides enough to fill my bowl with grain,
And planting glutinous rice often supplies my cups of wine.
A plain zither carries my long chants afar,
A solitary robe defies the vulgar with a lofty gaze.
The state's noble ranks I shun as rank offal,
Though my home is poor, I savor it as a cherished taste.
The garden path, grown wild, calls me to return early,
Roaming my grounds, I cultivate a scene of fine delight.
To follow custom—how could that mean seeking sameness?
To go against the times is not to stand in odd defiance.
Far, far away, the breeze from the five-willow tree,
A thousand years on, still makes me heave a sigh.
