交世非初志，谋生又绝疏。

jiāo shì fēi chū zhì， móu shēng yòu jué shū。

家贫思辟谷，人忌悔知书。

jiā pín sī bì gǔ， rén jì huǐ zhī shū。

门异回轩巷，乘无秃尾馿。

与世交往本非我最初的志向，

谋求生计的方法又极为疏陋。

家境贫寒时想学辟谷不食五谷，

遭人忌恨后悔悟知晓诗书。

我的门庭不同于权贵回车的小巷，

我的坐骑连秃尾的毛驴都没有。

年老顽钝，请您不要见怪，

世间万事都有消长与更替。

To engage with the world was not my original intent,

To make a living, my methods are utterly sparse.

In household poverty, I think of fasting on air,

With others' envy, I regret my knowledge of books.

My gate differs from those grand carriages' lanes,

My ride lacks even a scraggly-tailed donkey.

Old and stubborn, sir, do not find it strange,

For all things under heaven have their ebb and flow.
