岂敢怨恨自己出生在圣贤之后?
六经虽然有所缺失,但终究编纂成书。
尧舜之道本为亲身所见(的典范),
谁说孔子、孟子的道统没有传承?
微妙的道理岂能在儒生之外求得,
淳厚的风气难道存在于结绳记事之前?
只要此身还未死去,就还能努力,
再陪伴我的儿子学习几年。
How dare I resent being born after the sages?
Though the Six Classics have gaps, they are still compiled.
Originally, Yao and Shun were seen in person,
Who says the Way of Confucius and Mencius is not transmitted?
Subtle principles are not sought beyond the scholar's robe,
Pure customs exist not before the knotting of ropes.
As long as this body lives, I can still strive,
And accompany my son in study for several more years.
