唐虞千载仰巍巍，太息儒生每背驰。

táng yú qiān zǎi yǎng wēi wēi， tài xī rú shēng měi bèi chí。

ㄊㄤˊ ㄩˊ ㄑㄧㄢㄗㄞˇ ㄧㄤˇ ㄨㄟㄨㄟ，ㄊㄞˋ ㄒㄧㄖㄨˊ ㄕㄥㄇㄟˇ ㄅㄟˋ ㄔˊ。

经未尽亡君更考，古无不死我何悲。

jīng wèi jìn wáng jūn gèng kǎo， gǔ wú bù sǐ wǒ hé bēi。

钓耕本是求贤地，宵旰今逢愿治时。

寄谢公卿各努力，为吾君筑太平基。

白话文翻译

唐尧虞舜的盛世，千年来令人景仰其崇高，

可叹儒生们常常背离了圣王之道。

经典并未完全消亡，君王您可进一步考究，

自古以来无人能免于一死，我又何必悲伤？

垂钓与耕作之地，本就是访求贤才的场所，

如今正逢君王勤于政事、渴望治世的时代。

寄言各位公卿大臣，希望大家各自努力，

为我们的君主奠定太平的基业。

For a thousand years, we've looked up to the lofty age of Tang and Yu,

Alas, Confucian scholars often run counter to the Way.

The classics are not wholly lost; you, my lord, may further study them,

Since ancient times, none have escaped death—why should I grieve?

Fishing and farming were the grounds for seeking worthy men,

Now, in these days of earnest rule, the sovereign toils from dawn to dusk.

I send word to the lords and ministers: each must strive with might,

To build for our sovereign the foundation of a lasting peace.
