天机入神即挥洒，气脱毫素先腾骧。
昔年曾画穆王游八极，八龙之骏云五色。
后来又写越影超光脱丹碧，后来又写汉武穷渥洼。
复见神驹来汉家，势走灭没开风沙。
壮哉此马健且雄，玉花遍身云满鬃。
首如渴乌眼如电，皎如疋练横晴空。
使之陷阵当破敌，万马不敢先秋风。
如何解鞍脱其馽，纵尔俶傥如游龙。
君不见四海罢征战，九夷尽梯航。
方将却尔宛水之西，归尔华山之阳。
幸逢韩供奉写尔神，杜拾遗歌尔良。
赠尔支道林，爱尔神骏悬高堂。

唐代画家画马如同相马，
不局限于毛色是黑还是黄。
天赋的灵机入于神妙便挥洒自如，
气韵脱出绢素，骏马已先腾跃飞扬。
往年曾画周穆王巡游八方极远之地，
八匹龙马神骏，毛色如云五彩绚丽。
后来又画名为“越影”、“超光”的骏马，超越了丹青的色彩，
后来又画汉武帝在渥洼寻得天马的故事。
又见神驹来到汉家朝廷，
其奔腾之势仿佛能驱散风沙，消失于烟尘。
雄壮啊这匹马，健硕又威武，
通体如缀玉花，鬃毛似流云遍布。
马首如渴乌仰首，双目如闪电般明亮，
皎洁如一匹白练横贯晴朗的天空。
若让它冲锋陷阵，必能破敌制胜，
万马在秋风前都不敢率先行动。
为何却解下鞍鞯，松开它的羁绊，
任你潇洒不羁，如游龙般自在盘桓？
您没看见天下已经止息了征战，
四方远夷都已梯山航海前来朝见。
正打算送你回到宛水之西，
让你归返华山南面的故地。
幸有韩干供奉为你传神写照，
杜拾遗（杜甫）作诗歌咏你的优良。

Tang painters depicted horses as if judging their breed,
Not fixated on mere colors, black or yellow indeed.
Divine insight, with spirit caught, they freely brushed the scene,
Where vigor leapt from silk or paper, noble and serene.
Years past, they painted King Mu's tour to the world's eight ends,
With eight dragon-steeds in clouds of five hues, where glory wends.
Later they portrayed Yueying and Chaoguang, leaving cinnabar and azure far behind,
Later they depicted Han Wudi's quest at Wo'wa, where wondrous steeds he'd find.
Once more a divine colt arrived at the Han house's gate,
Its momentum sweeping through vanished dust, parting wind and sand's weight.
How stout and strong, how virile is this steed!
Jade flowers adorn its form, cloud-like mane runs with speed.
Its head like a thirsty crow, eyes flashing lightning's gleam,
Bright as a bolt of silk stretched 'cross the sky's vast dream.
Set it to charge the foe, break through the battle's might,
Ten thousand horses dare not stir before the autumn wind takes flight.
Why then unbridle it, remove the saddle's hold,
Let it roam free and graceful, a dragon bold?
Do you not see all lands have ceased their wars and fights,
And distant tribes now climb by ladder, sail by flights?
I shall send you back west of the Wan River's flow,
Return you to the sunny side of Mount Hua, where peace may grow.
Fortunate to meet Han the court artist, who captured your soul,
And Du the Left Secretary, who sang of your role.
I offer you to Zhi Daolin, who loved steeds with passion true,
To hang your divine image high in hall, for all to view.
