草衰何预人，每起徂年悲。

cǎo shuāi hé yù rén， měi qǐ cú nián bēi。

ㄘㄠˇ ㄕㄨㄞㄏㄜˊ ㄩˋ ㄖㄣˊ，ㄇㄟˇ ㄑㄧˇ ㄘㄨˊ ㄋㄧㄢˊ ㄅㄟ。

日月才几何，又见青青时。

rì yuè cái jǐ hé， yòu jiàn qīng qīng shí。

ㄖˋ ㄩㄝˋ ㄘㄞˊ ㄐㄧˇ ㄏㄜˊ，ㄧㄡˋ ㄐㄧㄢˋ ㄑㄧㄥㄑㄧㄥㄕˊ。

青青虽满眼，行矣当复衰。

qīng qīng suī mǎn yǎn， xíng yǐ dāng fù shuāi。

盛衰还无端，其理可前知。

白话文翻译

草木凋零与人何干？

却总引发对逝去岁月的悲伤。

日月轮转才过去多久，

又见到一片青翠的时光。

虽然满眼都是青绿，

但前行终将再度衰亡。

兴盛与衰败没有端由可讲，

其中的道理却可预先推详。

人生一世，死后便了，

千年万载，再无回返之期。

Grass withers, what has it to do with man?

Yet it always stirs grief for years gone by.

How brief the sun and moon's measured span!

Again I see the green spread 'neath the sky.

Though green now fills the eye on every hand,

It will march on, and wither as before.

Flourish and decay, no cause we understand,

Yet their principle was known of yore.

Man's life ends with his death, that is the end;

For a thousand years, no return, no mend.
