人生的困顿与显达各有天命,拂衣而去径直归隐还算是不错的选择。
介之推被烧死也始终不后悔,梁鸿寄人篱下靠人供养,我又有什么可羞愧的?
何必随着官牒文书东奔西走,阿谀奉承、忍受屈辱以希求晋升的阶梯?
起初根本没有公论来评判是非清浊,徒然让新贵们夸耀云泥之别的地位。
会稽山的一个老人贫穷无食,衣衫破烂、鞋履穿孔、面容黧黑。
谁能懂得快意自在的心境举世难寻——就在那南山之北、北山之南的地方。
Have you not seen the wealth of Fenyang, peerless in recent ages, / Twenty-four terms as chief councilor recorded in the annals?
Or have you not seen Ciming rising from common cloth attire, / To the rank of the Three Excellencies in but ninety-five days?
In life, hardship and success are each bound by fate's decree; / Shaking off one's robes and leaving straight is still a better choice.
Jie Tui burned to death yet never regretted his resolve; / Liang Hong lived on others' charity—what fault is there in that?
Why must one chase official posts east and west with documents, / Flattering, enduring shame, hoping to climb the social stairs?
At first, no public judgment separates the clear from the foul, / Only making new nobles boast of clouds above the mud.
An old man of Kuaiji Mountain, poor and without food to eat, / His clothes in tatters, shoes worn through, his face dark and sallow.
Who knows the joy of a carefree mind, nowhere in this world to be found— / North of the Southern Mountain, south of the Northern Mountain.
