在东门买来猪肋骨，
蘸着醋酱配上橙皮和薤菜。
蒸鸡最为有名，
味道之美胜过鱼蟹。
犀浦产的芋头硕大卷曲，
新都的蔬菜磊落新鲜。
想续写老饕的赋文，
又怕破了头陀的戒律。
何况我的牙齿日渐稀疏，
怎敢屡次大块撕咬？
杜老因食烤牛肉而死，
千古引以为戒的祸败。
闭门服食朝霞，
无病也无债。

At the southern market I buy murky wine,
With floating dregs, sweet and unspoiled it stays.
At the eastern gate I purchase pork ribs fine,
Dipped in vinegar sauce with orange and chive arrays.
Steamed chicken is the most renowned of all,
Its taste surpasses even fish and crab.
From Xipu come knobby taros, round and tall,
From Xindu, fresh greens piled in a craggy slab.
I long to add to the old glutton's song,
But fear to break the ascetic's vow so strict.
Besides, my teeth grow looser, weak and long,
How dare I gnaw large chunks, by habit licked?
Du Fu died from roast beef, as stories tell,
A warning for millennia of harm it's been.
I'll close my door and feed on morning's rosy spell,
Free from illness and from debt, serene and lean.
