人的苦恼在于从不知足，
贪婪的欲望浩瀚无穷。
每日饱食豹胎仍不满足，
腌渍的野菜却按时供奉。
用人乳去喂养小猪，
即便是帝王也会动容变色。
当人尚未得志之时，
一块烤鹅肉便能打动英雄。
可悲啊，王相国！
他的计谋败于饭后的钟声。
所以贤明通达之士，
对俭约与丰盛一视同仁。
我也是个困顿失意的人，
半生漂泊，羁旅在外。
木盘里盛满藜菜和苋菜，
其美好与珍馐玉食相同。
口腹之欲又算得了什么呢？
竟曾如此役使我的身心。
放下筷子，粲然一笑；
写下这首诗，来晓谕愚公。

Man's sorrow lies in never knowing contentment;
Greedy desires are vast and without end.
Feasting daily on leopard fetus, yet still unsatisfied,
While simple pickled herbs are offered in due time.
To suckle a pig with human milk—
Even the emperor would change his countenance.
Before one meets his destined hour,
A mere roast goose can stir a hero's heart.
Alas, for the Chancellor Wang!
His plan failed with the bell after the meal.
Thus the wise and noble man
Views frugality and plenty with an equal eye.
I, too, am one who stumbles along,
A wanderer bound for half my life.
A wooden plate filled with wild greens and amaranth—
Its beauty rivals the finest jade-like feast.
How much, after all, are the cravings of the mouth and belly?
That they should have enslaved my very self.
Laying down my chopsticks, I smile brightly;
