What use are books to the world, after all?
The words of sages are like Creation itself—vast earth rifts, heavens unfold.
From the depths of Yu, Tang, to Zhou and Confucius, a lineage bold,
Like the Yellow River's ten-thousand-mile flow from Kunlun's height untold.
Heaven did not let scholars bleed in the Warring States' plight,
Nor let the Six Arts turn to ashes in Qin's extinguishing light.
Clear as the blind beholding the blazing sun, a sudden sight,
Swift as the deaf hearing spring thunder, pure delight.
Like Mount Tai and Hua piercing the void, towering and steep,
Like the Milky Way cascading, majestic and deep.
Why do later ages alone fail to perceive this keep,
Abandoning the open road for treacherous paths, a leap?
Unaware they tread on old tracks with eyes wide open, blind,
And blame the broken wheel for the wreck they find.
Fortune has its foundation, disaster its seed sown,
Once calamity is born—alas!—the tragedy is known.
