尚未耗尽这一片苦心的艰辛，
双鬓的黑发却已早早斑白消逝。
要心怀畏惧，如同亲临战阵，
要持守恭敬，仿佛身在朝廷。
这是我们家族传承的要事，
孩子们啊，你们定要仔细聆听。

To master the classics, one must start with exegesis and gloss.
To expound a word, probe its sound and form to the extreme.
Before the toil of this inch-heart could be fully spent,
Already the dark locks at my temples have faded away.
Tremble as if standing before a battlefield arrayed,
Revere as if serving within the imperial court's hall.
This is the very business of our family's way,
My sons, you must listen with care, one and all.
