冬夕宜晚睡，夏日思晨兴。

dōng xī yí wǎn shuì， xià rì sī chén xīng。

ㄉㄨㄥㄒㄧㄧˊ ㄨㄢˇ ㄕㄨㄟˋ，ㄒㄧㄚˋ ㄖˋ ㄙㄔㄣˊ ㄒㄧㄥ。

磊落明星高，苍凉朝日升。

lěi luò míng xīng gāo， cāng liáng cháo rì shēng。

正襟坐堂上，有几不敢凭。

白话文翻译

冬天的夜晚适合晚睡，

夏天却想着要早起。

明亮的星星高挂，磊落分明，

苍凉的朝阳正在升起。

我在堂上正襟危坐，

有几案也不敢倚靠。

将前代圣人的书籍陈列面前，

敬畏的心情如同脚踏深渊薄冰。

平生从不苟且求取利益，

哪里只是害怕朋友的议论？

长久饥饿请您不要嘲笑，

人各有其做不到的事情。

In winter nights, it's good to sleep late and long,

But summer days urge me to rise with the dawn's song.

The bright stars stand lofty in a clear, vast sky,

The pale morning sun ascends, cool and high.

I sit upright in the hall, robes properly arranged,

Dare not lean on the desk, my posture unchanged.

Before me lie the books of ancient sages wise,

Treading them feels like treading thin ice, solemn and unwise.

All my life I've never sought profit by unfair means,

Is it only friends I fear? It goes beyond such scenes.

Do not mock me for enduring constant hunger's plight,

Each person has their limits, beyond which they cannot fight.
