The stream's voice is truly the Buddha's vast and long tongue,
Through countless eons discoursing on emptiness, its sound never ceases.
I know not from which mountain it originates,
With a single-minded intent to flow eastward, forgetting ten thousand bends.
I wish to rinse my mouth with stones by the water's edge,
But alas, my teeth are loose and falling out, time and again.
In the dead of night, the cold sound reaches the traveler's pillow,
I almost suspect I am the one who pillows on the stream.
