梦中归返华亭，总在拂晓时分屡屡惊醒。
倘若仙家典籍未曾标举它奇异的形貌，
琴曲《别鹤操》又怎能寄托这悲恨的声情？
涵养元气，自顾怜惜，鸡虽善斗又何足道；
保全身躯，却自认不如，雁尚能鸣叫传警。
在灵芝田边、玉水之畔，与春云相伴徜徉，
难道乘坐华贵车驾，就是它所追求的荣名？

Dreams of returning to Huating Pavilion are startled by dawn, again and again.
If the Taoist scriptures had not marked this form as wondrous and rare,

Nourishing its vital breath, it pities the cock's skill in winning fights;
Preserving its whole body, it yields to the wild goose's ability to cry.
