My master loved to praise the hermits of old,
And the Grand Historian wrote of jesters bold.
Yao's cup of wine was not for Xu You or Chao Fu,
King Wu's offered grain could not sate Bo Yi or Shu Qi.
A gleaned ear of grain is worth a noble's salary,
And a handful of wild ferns can fill a hundred jars of pickles.
These are not wild words, empty and without restraint,
As Nie Que and Wang Ni would tell you, were they here.
