长久客居，方知秋日来得早，
靠近湖泊，秋意更加深浓。
因我睡眠不稳，辗转难眠，
便知你夜晚也难过煎熬。
年成歉收，山中粮食已空，
门庭闲静，小路被莎草淹没。
归来的日期不要定得太晚——
双亲已老，鬓发全都斑白了。

Long a traveler, I know autumn comes early,
Near the lake, autumn's presence is even stronger.
Because my sleep is restless and uneasy,
I know your nights are hard to bear.
In a lean year, the mountains are bare of grain,
The idle gate, the path overgrown with sedge.

Our parents grow old, their hair all turned white.
