诸公固为廊庙贤,麒麟未画宜私传。

吴道子画鬼神,韩干画马。
鬼神既然是虚假的便不值得称道,
狗和马难以画得逼真,也多有虚假。
显师从幼年起就专门描绘人物,
至今技艺精妙绝伦,仿佛有神相助。
挥毫之间便觉得面容栩栩如生,
在素绢上忽然惊讶地看到身体如真身显现。
头戴高冠,腰佩长剑,侍立在天子身旁,
将来定会声如金玉,容色光润。
显师面对他们都能够挥洒自如,
众人说他十有八九能画得逼真。
诸位公卿本就是朝廷的贤才,
麒麟未曾入画,适合私下流传。
一丘一壑的隐居生活我也能够接受,
烦劳您用丹青描绘,我毫无意见。
Since ancient times, famed painters have been known,
Wu's ghosts and spirits, Han's steeds were shown.
Spirits and ghosts, mere fakes, deserve no praise,
Dogs and horses, hard to capture, oft in falsehood blaze.
Master Xian, from youth, portrayed the human face,
His skill so fine, a divine touch we trace.
With brushstrokes swift, a visage comes to view,
On plain silk, a body seems to stand anew.
High cap and long sword by the emperor's side,
In future, golden voice and jade-like hue abide.
The master paints them free, with spirit bold,
Onlookers say eight or nine likenesses he'll hold.
These lords are worthy pillars of the state,
Unpainted kylins should in private circulate.
A hill, a vale—for me, they too suffice,
Trouble the painter not, I'll take no device.
