（山脉）绵延万里横贯东西，
连绵的山峰遮蔽了北方边陲。
寒气缠绕，冰雪景象凄惨，
地势险峻到了极点，仿佛是鬼神所为。
狭窄的道路仅容单车勉强通过，
（使人）徘徊难行，壮士也心生悲慨。
今日我明白了上天的用意，
正是要以此（天险）来分隔华夏与夷狄。

It stretches east and west for miles untold,
Where peaks in chains the northern marches hold.
Its air is bound by ice and snow's grim plight,
So perilous that gods and ghosts took fright.
A single carriage squeezes through the pass;
The stalwart halts, in sorrow, on the grass.
Today I grasp what Heaven did intend:
To set the bounds for Chinese and barbarian's end.
