八月里江河湖泊秋水高涨，
大堤在夜间崩裂，声响嘈杂。
前面村庄的农家已失去好几户，
靠近城郭的小船聚集了上百艘。
蛟龙在水中蜿蜒，水鸟羽毛洁白，
渡口的老人摆渡必须支付工钱。
城南的百姓大多已葬身鱼腹，
买来鱼想要烹煮，却总是感到凄惨悲伤。

The great embankment cracks at night with a clamorous sound.
Several households from the front village farmers have died,
Near the city walls, a hundred boats are gathered round.
Dragons writhe, waterfowl gleam white in the murky flow,
The old man at the ferry must be paid his due fee.
Most folk south of the city have become fish below,
To cook the fish we buy brings grief and misery.
