真德秀、洪咨夔、蒋重珍、魏了翁，这四位先生相继沦落离世，
上天难道肯为人世忧虑吗？国家眼看就要倾覆空虚了。
众人因憎恶而对他们发难，抨击他们的学术主张，
这几位贤者至死也不明白（朝廷）与金人议和的策略。
他们美好的治国方略，已付诸悲歌之外，无人采纳，
往昔的憾恨，只残留在他们上奏的文稿之中。
我本想续写杜甫《八哀诗》那样的诗篇来悼念他们，但才思短浅，
只剩下两行热泪，洒向松林间的清风。

Zhen, Hong, Jiang, Wei, their light extinguished in succession,
Heaven, would it grieve for men as the state verges on emptiness?
From many mouths, born of hatred, came debates on learning,
These worthies died, never understanding the peace with the northern foe.
Their noble plans are now entrusted beyond the realm of mournful songs,
Old regrets remain only within the memorials they submitted.
I intended to continue the 'Eight Laments', but my talent and thoughts fall short,
Leaving only these twin tears to sprinkle upon the pines and wind.
