圣贤的领域长久以来荒芜漫灭，
世人竞相追逐的只是功名利禄。
管仲、晏婴如果真有治国实绩，
又何必一定要向往尧舜的世道？
周公、孔子那开明通达的心志，
幸亏有伊川、洛水的儒者传承。
自古以来，端正自己的心性，
要平定天下、治理国家确实绰绰有余。
可叹啊，晋朝那个时代，
君臣相效，空谈玄虚清静之道。
不知道千年以后的人们，
回头看我们今天这个时代，又会觉得怎样呢？

The sacred realm has long been overgrown with weeds,
While worldly gain is what the age now craves and heeds.
If Guan and Yan had truly substance to their name,
Why must we long for times of Yao and Shun in fame?
The enlightened hearts of Zhou and Kong, bright and clear,
Relied on scholars from the Luo and Yi to steer.
Since ancient times, to rectify the heart and mind,
Ensures that peace and order are not hard to find.
Alas! In that Jin era, rulers of the land,
Learned from each other to discuss the void, so bland.
I wonder, people of a thousand years to be,
How will they look upon our present age and see?
