商气正惨栗，商花忽红芳。

shāng qì zhèng cǎn lì， shāng huā hū hóng fāng。

ㄕㄤㄑㄧˋ ㄓㄥˋ ㄘㄢˇ ㄌㄧˋ，ㄕㄤㄏㄨㄚㄏㄨㄏㄨㄥˊ ㄈㄤ。

有如乍贫妇，犹饰盛时妆。

yǒu rú zhà pín fù， yóu shì shèng shí zhuāng。

ㄧㄡˇ ㄖㄨˊ ㄓㄚˋ ㄆㄧㄣˊ ㄈㄨˋ，ㄧㄡˊ ㄕˋ ㄕㄥˋ ㄕˊ ㄓㄨㄤ。

众目惊赏心，所见非所望。

秋日的肃杀之气正凛冽逼人，

木芙蓉却忽然绽放出鲜红芬芳。

就像一位刚刚陷入贫困的妇人，

依然佩戴着盛年时的华丽妆饰。

众人目光惊异，内心赞叹不已，

眼前所见并非他们原先的期望。

此后便少有这般鲜红的荣华，

只余橘柚在寂寞中渐渐枯黄。

英文翻译

The breath of autumn is bleak and severe,

Yet the hibiscus suddenly blooms red and fair.

Like a lady newly fallen into poverty,

Who still adorns herself in her splendid attire.

All eyes are startled, their hearts full of praise,

For what they see is not what they had expected.

Henceforth, there will be little of such crimson glory,

Left in solitude, oranges and pomelos turn yellow.
