放舟龙阳县，洞庭包五河。

fàng zhōu lóng yáng xiàn， dòng tíng bāo wǔ hé。

汹汹不得道，茫茫将奈何。

xiōng xiōng bù dé dào， máng máng jiāng nài hé。

是中太无岸，强指苇与莎。

白话文翻译

从龙阳县放舟出发，

洞庭湖包容了五条江河。

水势汹涌找不到航道，

茫茫一片该如何是好。

船夫请求稍作停泊，

石碇沉入了泥沙之中。

这里完全望不到岸，

勉强指着芦苇与莎草。

滞留了三四天时光，

大浪如山般高耸险恶。

同船的人都落下泪来，

自认为要喂了巨鼋和扬子鳄。

白茫茫的水面日益扩大，

仅存一些青草的嫩芽。

转眼间又被淹没，

只见千顷波涛浩渺。

此时真羡慕那白鸟，

飞入了青山的山坳。

I set sail from Longyang County's shore,

Where Dongting Lake engulfs five rivers' roar.

The waters surge, no passage can be found,

A vast expanse, despairing and profound.

The boatman begs to make a brief respite,

The stone anchor sinks deep in mud, out of sight.

Here, no shoreline can the eye behold,

We point to reeds and sedge, a story told.

For three or four dawns, here we are detained,

As mountainous waves rise, terror unrestrained.

All in the boat shed tears, in fear they'd drown,

Thinking themselves as food for turtles brown.

The white waters grow wider day by day,

Only green grass sprouts barely hold their sway.

A glance away, and they are lost from view,

Nothing but a thousand acres of waves blue.

At this moment, I envy the white bird's flight,

That flies into the green mountain's recess, out of sight.
