From the height, the view stretches beyond the horizon's end,
Gazing afar, my sorrowful feelings begin to stir.
The setting sun casts a desolate hue over the land,
Tinted and deepened by the west wind's mournful hand.
Red maples blaze bright by the wild post station's side,
Pale waters slowly seep into the riverside town.
On horseback, the traveler turns his head with a sigh,
His journey grows dim, wrapped in a somber, heavy gown.
