The inkstone is a noble friend to the brush,
Its iron-dark face imposes a chilling hush.
Easy to obtain is the inkstick's dragon-horn hue,
But hard to meet is this purple horse-liver, rare and true.
Quartz may be compared to jade, yet falls short in grace,
She inkstones are fine, but Duan stands first in place.
I still recall within the examination hall,
How your discerning eye favored me above all.
