At night I read the Duke of Wen's poem on the fierce tiger,
Why, when the tiger dies, does one suddenly lament and cry?
In life, one seldom reflects on deeds of days gone by;
Only in death does the tiger feel shame for what it did.
Yesterday it could still devour bears and leopards;
Today it has no way to deal with even foxes.
I once said you were a fool who understood nothing—
To call you a痴儿, indeed, you were痴.
