An ominous star nears the capital's domain.
Soon we heard of the death of the barbarian chief,
Yet his corpse, like an emperor's mummy, did not return.
Our valiant troops vainly increased their cooking fires,
While cunning foxes contrived to lift the siege.
Everyone speaks of recovery and restoration,
But advance or retreat hinges on mere opportunism.
