那些拄着拐杖隐居的人,长久远行所见为何如此卑下?
我读《逸民传》,起初惊讶于严子陵的志向。
赤符符瑞的火焰正旺盛时,(光武帝)期盼他能共同治理天下。
他却转头回归深山,仿效巢父洗耳般(拒绝征召)。
六经如同戒尺与刀般令人敬畏,他怎能不对此感到畏惧?
反复推究史家的言辞,子陵离去确实有其道理。
要检验一个人的品德进步,必须在师友间进行测试。
如果测试方式与常人无异,成就怎能伟大?
既然已经招揽来了贤士,君王怎能舍得放弃?
如果你不能权衡汉室的道统,怎能轻易议论先生?
关于钓台的诗篇成千上万,没有一篇让我满意。
因而赋诗题写《思耕亭》,姑且借此阐发这番道理。
In the fields of Shen, he cast aside his plow, a new era to endow;
Six hundred years of Yin's rites, he did solemnly vow.
From Nanyang, he left the harrow, a Han cause to avow;
A fallen enterprise, he raised again, we see now.
The sage's heart, burdened with the world's care,
Like autumn moon shining on chill water, pure and fair.
Those who lean on their staffs, aloof and unaware,
Going afar, what lowly sights do they see there?
Reading the tales of hermits, I start to doubt
Ziling's resolve, what was his thought about?
When the Red Talisman's flame was burning stout,
He was eyed to aid the rule, beyond a doubt.
Yet he turned his head, to deep mountains he went,
To cleanse his ears like Chaofu, his intent.
The Six Classics, stern as ruler and knife,
How could he not hold them in awe, in life?
Pondering the historian's words, back and forth I trace,
Ling's departure indeed had its rightful place.
To gauge a man's virtue as it starts to grow,
One must test him among teachers and friends, you know.
If tested like any common man, all the same,
How could his achievements rise to fame?
Since the scholar was already persuaded to appear,
Could the king simply let him go, so dear?
If the Han's way you cannot balance and weigh,
How can you lightly critique the master, I say?
A thousand poems on the Fishing Terrace stand,
Yet none have ever met my mind's demand.
So I write this on "Thinking of Plowing," to impart
And give voice to this meaning, close to my heart.
