商山园绮徒，雪发映松露。

shāng shān yuán qǐ tú， xuě fà yìng sōng lù。

山间谓终老，不踏市朝路。

白话文翻译

商山的园公和绮里季这两位隐士，

他们雪白的头发与青松和晨露相映。

本打算在山中隐居直到终老，

绝不踏入朝廷和市井的道路。

一旦太子的星宿隐匿不彰，

他们便如羽翼般起身辅佐保护。

身着古旧的衣冠，步履从容，

谈笑间便稳定了太子的储副地位。

留侯张良的计策只是偶然成功，

哪里就真的触动了他们坚贞的素志？

由此可知，古往今来的士人，

他们的出仕与隐退自有冥冥中的定数。

如果功名终究不可避免，

那么像四皓这样的隐士也能提供一种帮助。

何必非要运用机巧去奔走钻营，

反而丢失了自己本来的步调（像邯郸学步一样）？

The hermits of Mount Shang, Qi and Li, these two,

Their snow-white hair mirrored by pines and dew.

They vowed to end their days in the mountain's hold,

Never to tread the paths where power is bought and sold.

But when the Crown Prince's star was dimmed from sight,

They spread their wings to shield him with their might.

In ancient robes, with dignified, slow pace,

They smiled and steadied the heir to take his place.

Marquis Liu's scheme was but a chance affair,

How could it stir their steadfast hearts so fair?

Thus we know, scholars of all times and lands,

Their coming forth or hiding rests in unseen hands.

If fame and merit cannot be escaped in the end,

Even the Four Graybeards might as a helper lend.

Why then resort to cunning haste and drive,

And lose your own true stride to vainly strive?
