吾友明知士,结庐汝水边。
名亭号休心,休心师昔贤。
将期一寸诚,悠久如青天。

曾子善守约,孟轲养浩然。

吉凶因情感而变化,善恶因习染而迁移。
如同湍急的水流冲决堤防,放荡的心性便无法回归。
所以古代的圣贤老师,反复研读典籍以至于韦编三绝。
曾子善于持守简约之道,孟轲善于培养浩然之气。
他们都能保有诚心与明德,光辉流传千载。
这位君子真是他们的同道,尤其精研典籍史册。
心境恬淡安宁,粹然灵明,外界的思虑怎能将他牵扰?
仕进与隐退本有原则,任用与舍弃何必偏执一端。
像孔子生病不待祈祷,颜回安贫乐道享受无穷之年。
岂能等同于那些逃避世俗的人,身心行迹空受拘束牵绊。
My friend, a wise and learned man, / Built his hut by the Rushui's strand.
He named his pavilion 'Heart at Rest', / To learn from sages of the past.
He hopes his inch of sincerity, / Will last as long as the azure sky.
I've heard that man, most spiritual being, / Is born with a nature pure and pristine.
But fortune shifts with changing mood, / And habits shape the bad and good.
Like torrents breaching their banks wide, / Unchecked desires cannot subside.
Thus ancient masters, sage and wise, / Wore out their books to moralize.
Zengzi held fast to frugal ways, / Mencius nurtured his noble blaze.
Both kept their virtue bright and clear, / Their glory shines through thousand year.
My friend is truly of their line, / Well-versed in classics, thought divine.
Serene, his pure spirit stays, / Unfettered by external ways.
Advance, retreat, by principle led, / Employ, discard, with balanced head.
Like Confucius, who illness bore, / Or Yan Hui, joyful evermore.
He's not like those who shun the crowd, / Whose lives in self-made chains are bowed.
结庐水边以求休心,是士人对精神治理的主动实践。
描绘友人于水边筑亭隐居,追求内心宁静的志趣。
