婆婆说媳妇不好，肯定有其事，
媳妇说婆婆凶恶，却未必可知。
婆婆若不凶恶，
媳妇就不会死去。
给人做媳妇也实在艰难，
人已死了，传言尚且如此。

The 'Cruel Mother-in-law' is the wife's tale,
Perhaps it's the wife's one-sided plea.
The mother-in-law says the wife's faults are real,
But the wife's claim of cruelty is hard to see.
If the mother-in-law were not cruel,
The wife would not have died.
To be a wife for others is a hardship so dire,
Even after death, such words still abide.
