我这一生孤寂，究竟是为了什么？
世间事务纷杂繁多，没有完结的时候。
人人都嘲笑我拙于算计、所求甚少，
我却笑他人痴迷于过多的索求。
庭院中的花朵，花蕊疏密相间，
溪边的柳树，枝条长短不一。
想要让万事万物都整齐划一是不可能的，
天意恰恰就体现在这不整齐之中。

What purpose does my solitary life truly serve?
Worldly affairs are tangled, with no end in sight.
All mock my folly for counting gains too few,
Yet I laugh at their folly for endless desire.
Garden flowers bloom thick with sparse stamens here and there,
Streamside willows grow long with short branches high and low.
To make all things even is a wish never fulfilled,
Heaven's secret lies precisely in their unevenness.
