百姓穷困潦倒，性命便显得轻贱。
为何那赤发鬼般的疫病，
也波及到了这位白眉老者的身上？
他强忍痛苦，亲自尝药；
暂停哀伤，为亡子书写招魂幡旌。
乡邻们受世俗禁忌的拘束，
连哭泣吊唁都不敢发出声响。

When people are destitute, life is held cheap.
How is it that the red-haired demon of pestilence,
Has also reached the white-browed elder's home?
Enduring pain, he tasted the medicine himself;

The weeping and mourning were both soundless.
